Building a model healthcare system for UHC in Islamabad Capital Territory, Pakistan

Working in partnership with the the Federal Government of Pakistan's Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination (MoNHSRC), Elephant is working to digitise all primary health facilities in Islamabad Capital Territory and to lay the digital infrastructure for delivering UHC.
Since launching our first facility in May 2022, we have digitised 5 Primary Healthcare facilities, including 2 Family Welfare Centres, with the impact being felt across the facilities:

Product adoption has averaged +90% over the past 12 months

The system has averaged +90% product adoption over the past 12 months, across all facilities, showing high engagement from all users and across all modules, which is essential for robust reporting and data completeness.

Increasing continuity of care through repeat visits

72% of all visits in June 2024 were repeat visits. This demonstrates that patients are continuing to seek care at their facilities. Increased care-seeking behaviour is essential to maintaining a healthy population, especially for pregnant women, children, and those with chronic conditions. When patients return to an Elephant-powered facility, their records are easily found by scanning their ICT Health Card.

"As a practicing doctor, I am delighted with the positive impact of Elephant Healthcare OS on our daily operations. The system ensures comprehensive access to patient histories, including vital information like diagnoses and medications, enhancing our consultations significantly. Its intuitive design and automated dashboards streamline our workflow, allowing us to prioritize patient care. Elephant Healthcare OS is an effective innovation for healthcare facilities looking to boost efficiency and patient satisfaction, operating efficiently with minimal connectivity issues for uninterrupted access." Improving forecasting and accountability with drug inventory insights

Elephant’s inventory management module provides visibility of all stock in a facility, enabling accurate forecasts, efficient purchasing, inventory management and reduced wastage.

"I highly recommend the Elephant Healthcare System as an essential tool for improving stock management and enhancing the overall patient experience at healthcare facilities”  Shams-Ur-Rehman, Store In-Charge - CHC Shah Allah Ditta Pharmacy
Improving accuracy and reducing time spent on reporting

Capturing immunisation and burden of disease data

Mission Control dashboards set up in the Ministry and DHO offices arm health leaders with live data.

By installing Elephant's Mission Control dashboards in the DHO and Ministry offices, health leaders can accurately track immunisations and burden of disease at each facility or across a region. Tracking immunisations is essential for ICT to achieve SDG 3 to “end preventable deaths of newborns and children under 5 years of age” by 2030.

The data that Elephant captures further illustrates the burden of disease. This has many impacts, including increasing the ability to identify high rates of communicable or other notifiable diseases to appropriately react and allocate resources in addition to tracking non-communicable diseases that are more costly to the health system.

This project represents a groundbreaking step in digital innovation for Pakistan’s healthcare system. We are confident that together, we can elevate the health of Pakistan citizens and set a precedent for universal health coverage within Pakistan and the broader region.
